Many Joshua Tree downtown businesses will be open late every 2nd Saturday of the month for extended evening hours. Art gallery openings, restaurants, music events, shopping, and always lots of fun will be going on downtown from 5pm to 9pm and sometimes later! Check each month’s Facebook event page for the most recent event info and business hours. Come downtown and join in on the fun!

Downtown Joshua Tree Map and Business Directory Advertising Info
This tri-fold promotional brochure features a downtown Joshua Tree map and directory of all downtown businesses. It will be made available at locations throughout the Morongo Basin, at tourism trade shows and throughout LA and other regions. JT Chamber members have the first opportunity to advertise. We expect this to be a very popular promotional piece for tourists and locals to use as a guide to promote downtown JT, businesses and the arts community.
Guide will be printed in editions of 1000 copies. When we receive enough ad purchases for a new edition we will print another 1000 copies of the new edition with the new ads. Each edition will feature different cover art and reflect any changes in downtown businesses to keep the look fresh and content up to date. The cover art will feature work by local artists and will promote them with an attribution tag and website/email contact info. In this way we are promoting local businesses and local artists. Every edition will also be available for download indefinitely in PDF format on the new Chamber website. Your ad will continue to gain exposure online even after the printed edition is distributed.

Opening Reception July 11 for “Water in the Desert”at Twentynine Palms Visitor Center
An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 11, for “Water in the Desert: Scarcity and Abundance,” the summer art exhibition at the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce, 73484 29 Palms Hwy., downtown Twentynine Palms.
The public is invited to attend the reception from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and listen to music provided by fiddler Bobby Furgo. Admission is free.
The group art show features more than 20 desert artists, with works on paper, paintings, photography, mixed media, ceramics, and metal sculpture representing the artists’ interpretations of the water theme. The show will remain on display through July, August, and September 2014.
The gallery is open seven days a week inside the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce, located at the corner of Desert Queen Ave. and the highway, downtown Twentynine Palms. For more information or directions, call (760) 367-6197.
Art in Public Places exhibitions are presented quarterly by the Public Arts Advisory Committee of the City of Twentynine Palms.

JOSHUA TREE CLEAN TEAM
The Joshua Tree Clean Team meets on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesday of each month to clean the well-traveled routes in Joshua Tree. They provide the trash bags, gloves and grabber sticks to make the job easier.

Sunday afternoons are fun on Z107.7 Radio, broadcasting from Joshua Tree for the past 25 years!. At 3:00 p.m. listen to “The Many Moods of Ben Vaughn” an eclectic, quirky hour of music from the mysterious radio shack. Then, at 4:00 p.m., listen to “The Z107.7 Local Music Showcase”, a full hour of nothing but local musicians performing with the special Joshua Tree Vortex Magic. The Local Music Show is hosted by Hi-Desert Native and nationally recognized radio personality Pat Michaels. You can hear both on the air at 107.7 on the FM Radio dial. “A DOLL’S HOUSE” DIRECTOR PROUD OF HIS CAST, SET
As the classic, riveting drama, “A Doll’s House” by Henrik Ibsen continues its run at Theatre 29 through July 19th, Director Kurt Schauppner says he was at first delighted with fresh new talent and now is in wonder at how well his performers are portraying their multi-faceted roles.
Schaupnner, who Directed PICNIC and wrote and directed THE MEMORY JAR at Theatre 29, was named “Best Supporting Actor, Drama, for 2013 in an original production at the Grove’s Theater, “Georgia O’Keefe, said, “The best part of rehearsals was the discovery of actresses Tishia Forcada, who gives heartbreaking life to Nora Helmer, and Gabby Timbrook, who defies time itself in her portrayal of Mrs. Linde.
Both have been revelations.”
The Director, no stranger to the Theatre 29 stage, having appeared in numerous productions, including a lauded turn as Scrooge in last year’s production of “A Christmas Carol”, says he is very happy with how the players matured during rehearsals. “A wonderful experience has been watching the actors, Adam Redmon, Herman Platzke and the children, Nicholas, Christopher and Justin Perez and Lea Maya, blossom and bloom through the rehearsal process.” He said, adding, “Adam Redmon in particular has really grown into the role of Torvald Helmer while Herman Platzke brings a gravitas to his Dr. Rank that I did not realize he was capable of.”
He had high praise for his veterans as well, “Working with Sue Kelly is, of course, always a dream come true. She is the consummate actress and always gives everything she can to any role, large or small. Getting Rob Wanless to take on the role of Nils Krogstad was great as was getting Diana Jimenez to play the maid.”
First produced on the stage in 1879, the masterwork tells the intricate story of Torvald Helmer, who loves his wife, Nora, but secretly considers her a child and possession. When a secret debt comes back to haunt her, Nora’s seemingly idyllic domestic existence becomes a battleground between societal norms and self-determination.
Schauppner was also very proud of his intricate period set, commenting, “Of course, watching Ann Congdon and Shane Johnson slowly transform the Theatre 29 stage into a 19th century Norwegian home was a delight.”.
“A Doll’s house” will run for five weekends through July 19. Performances will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights (except July 4th) with Sunday Matinees at 2:30 p.m. June 29, July 6 and July 13.
Tickets are $12.00 for Regular admission, $10.00 for seniors and Military, and $8.00 for Children under 12 and students with ID.
Copper Mountain Commemorates Roger Wagner
The Board of Trustees would like to invite the community to celebrate and say goodbye to Dr. Roger Wagner after seven years of service to Copper Mountain College. The reception will be held in the Bell Center Foyer on July 10, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a brief program at 5:30 p.m.

BLM announces Connecting People to the Desert Subgroup Meeting
The Connecting People to the Desert Subgroup to the Desert Advisory Council (DAC) has scheduled a public meeting for July 8 from 6 to 10 pm at the BLM Barstow Field Office at 2601 Barstow Rd, Barstow CA.
The focus of the subgroup is to make recommendations on how to connect youth and adults with the resources of the California Desert by identifying education and other opportunities in the sciences, recreation, the arts and more.
