JOSHUA TREE CHAMBER APPLAUDS THE DESIGNATION OF SAND TO SNOW, MOJAVE TRAILS & CASTLE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL MONUMENTS
Joshua Tree, CA – The Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce applauds the announcement that President Barack Obama this week is designating three new national monuments in the California desert—Mojave Trails, Sand to Snow, and Castle Mountains. These new designations will raise the profile of California desert public lands as a destination for recreational tourism, preserve unique ecosystems, provide a variety of recreational opportunities, and celebrate our region’s rich history.
“The Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce has been a driving force for our community, supporting local and regional businesses, the arts and music, non-profit organizations, as well as residents and visitors for more than half a century,” said Marcus Andrew Motamedi, Executive Director of the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce. “The designation of these three new national monuments in the California desert positions our region as a premiere destination for recreational tourism and will support existing and new local businesses. We thank President Obama for designating the new Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails and Castle Mountains National Monuments. These monuments protect and connect habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal life as our climate changes, preserve our rich history, enhance our quality of life and support a vibrant business environment.”
More than 200 local businesses throughout the California desert region have joined the call for designation of the new monuments because they recognized that protecting public lands is not only good for people and wildlife, but also good for business.
The Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce extends a sincere thank you to Senator Dianne Feinstein for being a long-standing champion of the California desert and her tireless efforts that helped convince the President to take this historic action. The Chamber also thanks Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack for listening to our community and supporting this outcome.
